The Salone Satellite Was Created in 1998 as An Exhibition Space Dedicated to The Under 35. It Covers Two Pavilions At The Rho Congress Centre, The Entrance Is Free and Takes Place During The Same Days of The International Furniture Fair (12-17 April 2011)

The salone Satellite was created in 1998 as an exhibition space dedicated to the under 35. It covers two pavilions at the Rho Congress centre, the entrance is free and takes place during the same days of the International Furniture Fair (12-17 April 2011).According to Marva Griffin, in charge of that salone since the beginning: “ it is beautiful: young people are coming form all over the world to expose their prototypes, dreaming to be noticed. An ordinary designer even if very talented, what does it do? He designs a lamp, send it to Flos and...good luck. Here, it's the companies that are going to the designer, looking and searching, evaluating the potential of finished products and production”.Every year, almost 700 young designers meet and confront themselves on that stage. Here some example of some designers now famous: Matali Crasset, Patrick Jouin, Paolo Ulian,Satyendra Pakhalé, Tomoko Azumi, Lorenzo Damiani, Ilkka Suppanen, Nendo, Adriano Design, Harri Koskinen, Xavier Lust, Front.We can also mention the organisation committee, in charge of selecting the participants, including the best modern designers in the world: from Giulio Castelli to Italo Lupi, Alessandro Mendini, Paola Antonelli, from Philippe Starck to Mario Bellini,Maddalena De Padova, Carlo Guglielmi, Alberto Alessi and Pierluigi Cerri.When the salone makes us think on the history and the tradition, the Satellite presents on the contrary the experimentation, the up-most future, looking towards the environment's protection, the recycling and the impact zero.The Design Facility of the Polytechnic of Singapore deserves to be mentioned, looking at the senses' trail.
