From the Utson Opera House's iconic architecture to the gloden beaches of Bondi Beache, Sydney is an explosion of life and creativity in constant expansion. People are cordial and sociable, always smiling and opened. In this idillyc and warm atmosphere, miles away from a deep and prominent historical culture, exhibitions, conferences, workshops, meeting and installations are organised every single day!Landed in Australia in mid-August, I arrived on time for the Sydney Design Week. This annual event, organised by the Powerhouse Museum in collaboration with more than 60 cultural institutions, included over 100 events to connect people and create meaningful dialogue around design issues. This year's themse was focus on lace, weaving and textiles and some of the extraordinary works featured in the ground-breakingLove Lace exhibitione are drawn from finalists of the Powerhouse Museum’s third International Lace Award that ran in 2010.Just a few days after the design week's closure, there were some workshops with well known designer Tony Despigna and the Experimental Art Conference took place, organised by NIEA (National Institute of Experimental Arts) in collaboration with the NSWU (New South Wales University) and its COFA(College of Fine Arts). This interesting event introduced me to Dr. David Cross: an artist, writer, curator and associate professor of Fine Arts and the Massey University, Wellington, NZ. He is part of the “One day sculture” programm, a New Zealand serie of commissioned artworks by national and international artist. One day Sculture set out to examine how contemporary artists conceive of sculpture as a means to critically navigate and activate the public sphere. Presenting a range of national and international perspectives, the series is characterised by a diversity of artistic approaches from publicly-sited installations of 24-hour duration to nomadic interventions across the city at moments during one day.Sydney, city with thousands of facets, is fascinating with its natural beauty and is never boring with its continuoue and endless vitality !Exerpt:From the Utson Opera House's iconic architecture to the gloden beaches of Bondi Beache, Sydney is an explosion of life and creativity in constant expansion.
